5.6 Behaviour Management Strategies: instructional videos

Friendly and Fair Teaching created instructional videos for teachers who want to get started with Behaviour Management Strategies.

Three instructional videos

  1. The first instructional video provides general information about ‘Behaviour Management Strategies’.
  2. You use the second instructional video when you start the ‘Practice Period’, in which you begin working with ‘Behaviour Management Strategies’. You show parts of this video to your pupils. This video covers the ‘Framework’, the ‘Triangle’, having pupils write a ‘Future Behaviour Letter’, giving ‘Tips’ , and adressing students through body language and ‘Gestures’.
By giving Tips per period during the ‘Practice Period’, you address each pupil individually about behaviour and commitment.
  3. You use the third instructional video when you introduce the Abacus. You also show parts of this video to your pupils. You show them how you use the ‘Abacus’ to limit the number of ‘Tips’ per lesson. With the ‘Abacus’, you address the whole group about behaviour and commitment. At the same time—just as during the ‘Practice Period’ —you continue to address each pupil individually with Tips about behaviour and commitment per period.

Once you have introduced the ‘Abacus’, you set your boundaries in two ways:

  • per period
  • per lesson

1. General Information for the teacher about Behaviour Management Strategies

2. Information for student and teacher about the Practice Period

3. Information for teacher and student about the Abacus
